A high school business teacher once told a student his dream of becoming a CEO wasn’t realistic. That moment didn’t discourage him, it sparked a movement. What began as a children’s book and a podcast has evolved into Realistic CEO™, a student success and leadership platform now reaching thousands.
Today, Realistic CEO™ is led by that student, Mychal Connolly Jr., and his father Mychal Connolly Sr., the first father-son duo in New England history to both be recognized as 40 Under Forty honorees. Mychal Sr. received the, BusinessWest 40 Under 40, honor in 2009, and Mychal Jr. received the honor in 2026 at age 19, becoming one of the youngest recipients in the country.

“Hi Mr. Connolly,
I hope all is well! I wanted to give you a quick update on how my track season went this year.
I was able to win the state championship with a jump of 13 feet. As one of the leaders of our pole vault squad, I was also able to help my teammates improve, and together we scored 26.5 of our team’s 96.5 points in pole vault alone. Unfortunately, our team came up just short and lost by 3 points, but we were still proud of everything we accomplished.
One of the biggest things I noticed this season was how much the work I put in during the offseason paid off. A lot of that training was done on my own (which was pretty lonely)I could clearly see the results in how much faster and stronger I became throughout the year.
After taking a few weeks to recover, I’ll be starting training on Monday for my first season of college track and field. LBW has been in the back of my mind ever since we talked, and I’ll definitely be using the advice you gave me during our call to continue getting faster and stronger.
Looking back I think losing the state championship as a team was a blessing in disguise because it taught me that no matter how hard you work not everything is going to go your way. And that’s ok, you’ve just gotta get back on your feet and get back to work. I would have loved to win as a team, but at the end of the day we all learned valuable lessons in our own ways!
